MUSD Elementary Music, Band & Choir

Third Grade Classroom Music 

Currently, Menifee Union School District offers classroom music instruction for students in the Third Grade. Instruction focuses on the fundamentals of music including: Beat, Rhythm, Notes & Note Values, Note Names & Sight Singing using solfege.

To facilitate this learning, students learn to play the Recorder, along with pitched mallet instruments and ukuleles, which prepares them to participate in the Elementary Band program in the fourth and fifth grades.

Elementary Band

Band instrument instruction is offered to fourth and fifth grade students. Band instruction is offered as a 40 minute pullout from the regular class with an additional lesson offered immediately after school. Instruments currently offered are:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Alto Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Percussion (snare drum & glockenspiel (bells))

Elementary Choir

Students in the fourth & fifth grade may opt to elect to sing in the Elementary Choir. Through singing, students develop a better understanding of vocal concepts including breathing, diction, posture, and voice placement. They also expand their understand of music reading and sight singing.
